There’s no agenda without your ideas.
GovCamp Cymru is an unconference, which means there are no pre-booked talks. Instead, everyone has the opportunity to pitch a session, and together we create the agenda on the day.
Have a question, idea or challenge you’d like to explore? Pitch it!
If pitching feels a bit daunting, you’re not alone. You don’t need to be an expert, prepare a presentation or have all the answers. Bring something you’d like to discuss, and we’ll help you get started.
What makes a good pitch?
Keep it short and clear - around 30 seconds is enough. Let people know:
what you’d like to discuss
why it matters to you
who might be interested in joining the conversation
You might want to bring together people with experience in a particular area, or open up a discussion to anyone who’s interested. Both are welcome.
What could I pitch?
Your session could start with:
a question you don’t know the answer to
a challenge you’re facing at work
something you’ve tried and want to share
an idea you’d like to explore with others
a topic you’d like to hear different perspectives on
A session can be a conversation, a chance to solve a problem together or an opportunity to share experiences.
GovCamp Cymru is about open conversations, so please don’t use your session to sell or promote a product or service.
Examples of session pitches
Your session can be about a broad challenge or something more specific to your area of work. Here are two examples:
Pitch example 1: too many meetings -what actually helps?
A conversation about making time for focused work, open to everyone. No previous knowledge needed
Pitch example 2: when research findings contradict each other
A discussion for user researchers about interpreting conflicting findings and helping teams decide what to do next.
These are just examples — your idea doesn’t need to look like either of them.
How to pitch
You can submit an idea before GovCamp Cymru or come up with one on the day. Either way, your session will help shape the agenda.
Before the day
If you already have an idea, you can submit your pitch using our online form.
This gives you time to think about what you’d like to discuss. You can also let us know if you’d like a campmaker to pitch on your behalf.
On the day
We’ll have pitching cards available at the event. Use one to write down your session title, what you’d like to discuss and your full name.
We’ll ask you to share your pitch briefly with everyone, then take your card to the grid team. We’ll use the pitches to create the agenda together on the day.
Your session title will appear in English and Welsh on the grid. You can write it in the language you’re most comfortable with - we’ll have someone available to help translate it.
We may suggest bringing similar sessions together, particularly if there are more pitches than available session slots. We’ll talk to the people who pitched them first.
Prepare and relax
If you’d like somewhere to prepare or take a breather before or after your session, our Nurocove space will be available on the day.
If you’d like to practice your pitch or talk through an idea, approach a campmaker in a green T-shirt. They’ll be happy to help if they can.
You can also email govcampcymru@outlook.com if you’d like to talk to us before the event.
Happy pitching!
We look forward to hearing your ideas on the day.
